The Red Bull Air Race is already celebrating and the season has not even started! The U.S.A. programme has been nominated for a prestigious Sports Emmy Award by the National Television Academy, at the 29th Annual Sports Emmy Awards, sports television’s equivalent of the Oscars.

The ability to capture the drama, speed and skill of the world’s top pilots on the ground and in the air at speeds of up to 400 km per hour is one of the hardest jobs in televised sport and yet the producers of the world programme have managed to maintain the incredibly high levels of production over the three years that the Red Bull Air Race World Series has been in existence.

Speaking of the nomination, secured by American broadcaster Fox Sports Network (FSN), Red Bull Air Race GmbH CEO Bernd Loidl said, “It is a fantastic achievement for such a young sport like the Red Bull Air Race World Series to be considered alongside such established sports as NASCAR, the PGA and the NFL. It is recognition for the incredible hard work, talent and innovation of the whole team involved. The nomination is a great incentive to keep developing the Red Bull Air Race. The 2008 World Series promises to be even more exciting than 2007 with new rules and the development of our onboard technology which will really bring the cockpit to life for the millions of viewers who will be watching the 10 races around the world. We feel extremely honoured and hopefully this is just the start of a long and successful association between the National Television Academy and the Red Bull Air Race World Series.”

The Red Bull Air Race World Series 2007 programme on FSN was watched by more than 4.5 million viewers. The Series will air again on FSN starting in July 2008.

The Sports Emmy Awards recognise outstanding achievement in sports television coverage. For over a quarter of a century, the National Television Academy in the USA has presented the Emmy as a reward for excellence in sports broadcasting. The Red Bull Air Race World Series will find out if it has won the `Outstanding Technical Team Remote’ category, which recognises the technical portion of sports programmes in remote venues, at the awards ceremony in New York on 28th April when the world’s leading sports broadcasters will come together to celebrate the successes of 2007.

A great way to kick off the 2008 Red Bull Air Race season which begins in Abu Dhabi in April and ends in Perth in November.
