Extra 300 S / L
Walter Extra, a German entrepreneur, constructed his first aerobatic aircraft in early eighties. The plane EA-230 with 169kW engine became very popular shortly after its first World Championship race in Bekescsaba, Hungary, in 1984. The pilot, Eric Müller from Switzerland, took 6th and one year after even more – 3rd place in European Championship in Hosin, the Czech Republic. Popularity of Extra Aircrafts started to grow, what attracted its founder and director Walter Extra to design more planes and make a small very specialized company for its development.
The second plane after Extra 230 was EA-260, which was a bit stronger (191kW) version of EA230. Shortly after its presentation, W.Extra made a big change to his planes – brand new Extra EA-300 has been two-seat strong machine, with 220kW Lycoming engine. Extra 300 has been introduced in Canada, in 1988 and attracted attention immediately. The main construction is using carbon fibres more than had been usual since the plane roll-outed.
Extra’s biggest advantage is its two-seat cocpit with fully equipped dashboard and two sticks – it has been used for aerobatics training as well as for major competitions, both very successfully and remarkably.
In spite of its great success, Walter Extra did not fall asleep and his company already made great wide range of planes – in addition to Extra 300, Extra has built single seat Extra300S, stronger Extra EA-330 (Extra 300 with stronger engine in its nose), and mainly commuter planes such as Extra EA-400, EA-500.
